Kellner On Fire but Kiefel Krushing

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Kelly Kellner in jovial mood at the table as always, here on Day 1c of the 888Live Main Event in Barcelona.

An interesting two hands emerged from a fun table wihch features the newly-re-entered Cate Hall, everyone's favourite travelogue-posting high stakes cash game strategy whizz and Kelly Kellner who, and let's be clear about this, is one heck of a passionate Canadian.

A situation developed at the table which led to a poser from Torelli, but before that, let's rewind to the start of the hand with Kellner's tale of what happened.

"I had King-Jack, and called a bet in late position, I think it was 1,800. The flop came [Kc-Qc-Jh] with two clubs, I had no clubs, so he bet 3,500 and I called. The turn was the {7-Spades} and he bet 7,500 so I called again. On the {J-Hearts} river, he bet 12,000, about half his stack, so I moved in and started singing the Canadian National Anthem."

Wait, what? Yep, it's true. Kellner began the Canadian National Anthem, a full rendition of it. He's where Torelli comes in. He pitched the question to Twitter.

Proving that while we count chips while you riffle them, we can call a situation and voted a). Fortunately for the Canadian player, Kellner's opponent went with b), paying Kellner off and busting the tournament.

"He called me, showed a king and walked off. I got right to the end of the anthem too, and it's a long one, maybe two minutes. It's a Canadian crush."

Kellner also took part in the next hand, which was bumped to 2,500 pre-flop. The bet was made by a gentleman in middle position, and called not only by Kellner but raised to 7,500 by Philipp Kiefel in the big blind. Both opponents called.

On the flop of {Q-Hearts}{2-Spades}{9-Diamonds} , the gentleman in middle position open-shoved for 3,100. Kellner called that bet, but open-folded {J-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} to Kiefel's re-shove. He was right to do so, with Kiefel's {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs} way ahead of his opponent's {K-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. The turn {10-Spades} and river {4-Spades} kept it that way, and good humour between Kellner and Kiefel.

More for Cernadas Tierra

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Fernando Cernadas Tierra in the cutoff and Pedro Miguel Giminez in the big blind both invested 7,000 each and saw a flop of {10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. Giminez continued for 7,000, which Cernadas Tierra called. The {3-Diamonds} turn paired the board and Giminez slowed down. Cernadas Tierra bet 14,000 and that was enough to end the hand right there.

Cernadas Tierra flashed {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs} before raking in the pot.

Pop and MacIntyre Meet Again

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Maya Geller called a raise by Catalin Pop from late position and Fraser MacIntyre also called in the big blind to see a flop of {J-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. All three players checked and the {A-Spades} came on the turn. MacIntyre's check was followed by a bet worth 4,100 by Pop and a fold by Geller, MacIntyre called.

The {K-Hearts} river went check, check, and MacIntyre turned over {J-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, which Pop had beat {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Both know each other quite well after spending a lot of time at the same time during the €2,200 High Roller here at Casino Barcelona: Pop won, MacIntyre came second.

Game Over for Stephens

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante
Sally Stephens
Sally Stephens

Sally Stephens walked out of the tournament area and to the media desk next to the feature table, then explained how she had just busted. Stephens and table neighbor Pedro Miguel Giminez were involved in the last hand and Stephens' pocket kings were no match to the flopped set of threes of the Spaniard.

"I won most of it in cash, so I didn't have to pay much to play today. But there were too many beats, I can't take it anymore." While Stephens can still re-enter until the start of Day 2, this now seems very unlikely.

Hall In and Out

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante
Cate Hall was down, out...but has now re-entered.
Cate Hall was down, out...but has now re-entered.

Cate Hall busted €1,000+100 entry 888Live Barcelona Main Event just now, but having considered her options, she saw plenty of value in getting straight back in so has re-entered.

If that takes the sting of defeat from the following bust-out for her fans, all the better. It was Jesper Hansen who eliminated her, when the pair of them got the chips into the middle pre-flop. Hall held {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}, but couldn't catch Hansen's {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs} in a classic coinflip race.

Matuson In Charge

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

Stacy Matuson has dominated her table for much of the level, and is up to a six-figure stack after three-betting three hands in a row, once from the blinds and then twice in late position.

Elsewhere, William Kassouf is currently at 98,000 and on the feature table which you can watch right here.
