Claudio Di Giacomo opened to 100,000 on the button and Vladimir Lipnitskii defended the big blind.
The 9♣10♥4♦ flop was checked by both to see the 8♥ turn.
Lipnitskii bet out 125,000 and Di Giacomo paid to see the river.
A 9♥ prompted Lipnitskii to jam for his remaining ~240,000, and Di Giacomo thought, before folding and passing the pot to Lipnitskii.
Yang Zhang and Petar Kalev had gathered 750,000 chips preflop when the dealer fanned 8♣8♥7♥. Zhang checked from middle position, after which Kalev bet 175,000 in the hijack.
Zhang then raised to 450,000, only to be three-bet all in for 1,485,000 by Kalev. Zhang spent some minutes in the tank before he called off for his tournament life.

Zhang was on a pure draw, which was completed as the 4♣ turn gave him a straight. Kalev still had some full house outs to work with, but the K♥ river was not one of them.
Zhang shipped the gigantic pot, leaving the start-of-day chip leader with less than eight big blinds.
Merijn van Rooij was down to just a few big blinds, which he committed from the small blind against Simon Lofberg in the big blind.

Van Rooij flopped some hope with 3♠7♥10♠, giving him a flush draw. The K♥ turn and 2♣ river were of no use to the Dutchman, however, and he said his goodbyes as he headed to the payout desk.
Presiyan Tsvetanov open-shoved roughly 500,000 from the hijack, and was looked up by Bastian Blum in the big blind.

Matthias Auer raised to 100,000 under the gun before Thor Morstoel three-bet to 300,000 in the hijack. Francesco Pagliazzo then moved all in for 875,000 in the big blind and Auer reshoved for 1,120,000. Morstoel let out a deep sigh and tanked for a minute, but he eventually got out of the way.

Pagliazzo remained in the lead on the 8♦6♠4♣ flop, but Auer hit the K♠ on the turn to move in front. The river was the Q♦ and Pagliazzo was sent to the rail.
"Jacks or ace-king?" Auer asked Morstoel after the hand.
"Jacks," Morstoel replied.
Yoshihiro Inoue opened to 100,000 from middle position and Shahar Levi re-raised to 260,000. Alin Ivan moved all in for around 600,000 from the small blind and Inoue folded.
Levi made a quick call, taking them to showdown.

Ivan stood to watch the low 5♦3♥8♠2♠10♠ runout seal his fate, and Levi got a chip up.
Levi regained after just doubling up another player at the table just a few hands before.
Sebastian Kotowicz open-jammed from the hijack for 880,000. Simon Lofberg asked for a count in the cutoff before committing a call.

Kotowicz's inferior pocket pair failed to work a miracle on the 2♣10♥7♠A♥4♣ runout, sending him to the rail.
Lofberg, meanwhile, expanded his already big stack and became the first player to cross the five-million mark.
Players were already on the 2♣3♠8♥9♣ turn with a pot of around 360,000.
Oleksandr Sybirtsev was all-in and at risk from under the gun for his remaining 725,000 and Shahar Levi covered from the cutoff.

Levi was ahead, and it was looking like Sybirtsev was going to bust the tournament.
This all changed when the dealer peeled the 8♣ river to give Sybirtsev trip eights.
Fahredin Mustafov raised to 100,000 in early position before Clyde Tjauw Foe reraised to 200,000 on the button, leaving only a few chips behind. Mustafov then moved all in, and Foe called for an additional 75,000.

Foe was dominated and at risk, but he took the lead on the 9♥K♦4♣ flop with a pair of fours. The 4♥ turn improved him to trips, and both he and Mustafov began playfully calling for another four on the river. It instead came the 6♣, but that was enough for Foe to stay alive.
