Schaal Fades Combo Draw for Stacks

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante
Austin Schaal
Austin Schaal

With 5,300 in the pot on a {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop, Austin Schaal overbet for 6,000 from under the gun. Joe Locke, however, wanted to play for all of it, shoving his 23,900 into the middle.

Schaal calmly stared at the board for a moment before making the call.

Joe Locke: {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Austin Schaal: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}

With Schaal holding two of Locke's outs to a straight, the {a-Spades} turn and {j-Spades} brought no salvation, and Schaal's two pair held for a near double-up.

Campbell Chips Up; Pupillo Out

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante
Roger Campbell
Roger Campbell

A player checked a {k-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop from the hijack, and Roger Campbell, who won the $500 Seniors NLH event a few days ago here at Hollywood Casino St. Louis, bet 1,200 into a pot of 2,000 on the button. The hijack called.

The {j-Diamonds} fell on the turn, and the hijack checked again. Campbell announced a bet of 1,800 and the hijack quickly folded.

Meanwhile, Nick Pupillo's seat has been filled by a new player, meaning Pupillo has one last shot to fire and bag up chips to add more points to his lead in the HPT Player of the Year race.

A Round of Chip Counts

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante

Burns and Turns

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante

Chip leader James Burns opened to 1,200 in the hijack over William Haner's early position limp and was called by Bryan Skreens in the small blind as well as the big blind. Haner called.

The {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop checked four ways. Skreens checked the third diamond on the {9-Diamonds} turn, and the big blind fired 2,000. Haner raised to 6,200, and Burns gave it up, as did Skreens and the big blind, giving Haner the pot.

Skreens Straightens Out a Foe

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante

Bryan Skreens checked a {4-Spades}{2-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop from the big blind, and the cutoff bet 1,400. Scotter Clark raised to 3,000 on the button, and Skreens check-raised all in, covering both of his opponents. The cutoff called off for 8,300 and Clark folded, preserving his remaining 6,400.

Opponent: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Bryan Skreens: {5-Spades}{3-Spades}

Skreens flopped the nuts, and although he got a sweat when the {4-Clubs} turn gave his opponent four outs to survive, the {10-Spades} river left Skreens with the pot and the knockout.

Simpson's Two Pair Takes It

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Players limped five ways to a flop of {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}{4-Hearts}, and Quintis Simpson bet 800 in the big blind. Craig Casino called from the cutoff, as did Bruce Hugon in the small blind.

The {9-Hearts} turn added a flush draw, and action checked through. After the {5-Clubs} river fell, Simpson fired 1,600 when checked to, and Casino quickly called. Hugon thought for a moment before tossing in the call as well.

Simpson took it down with {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for a turned flush draw and rivered two pair, and his opponents mucked.

Burns Leaves Pupillo Short

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

A player limped in from middle position, and James Burns raised to 1,200 from the hijack. Nick Pupillo called in the big blind, as did the middle position player.

All three players checked the {8-Spades}{3-Spades}{5-Spades} flop, and Pupillo announced a bet of 2,000 on the {q-Spades} turn. The middle position player folded, and Burns raised to 5,200, exactly enough to put Pupillo all-in. Pupillo quickly flung his hand to the muck.
