Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

With two levels in the books here on Day 3, we've already lost 15 players, nearly half the field. Another nine eliminations, and out final table will be set.

The remaining 17 players are now on a 15-minute break.

Luis Montano Eliminated in 18th Place ($4,180)

Luis Montano
Luis Montano

Luis Montano opened for 26,000 under the gun with {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} and cleared the field all the way around to Joao Lopes in the small blind. He put in a three-bet to 71,000 holding {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}, Montano moved all in for around 300K, and Lopes made the call.

It was a big pot and not really a surprise to see two big hands turned over. Unfortunately for Montano, he held the inferior pair and couldn't get lucky as the board ran out {4-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{9-Spades}{2-Clubs}{A-Hearts}. Montano was eliminated in 18th place for $4,180 while Lopes chipped up to over 800K.

Jorge Mascaro Eliminated in 19th Place ($3,860)

Jorge Mascaro moved all in for 110,000 after action folded to him on the button and Aliro Diaz, who was next to act, made the call.

Showdown

Diaz{10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Mascaro{A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

The {J-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop gave Mascaro a gut-shot straight draw, meaning a queen of ace would give him the lead. The {K-Clubs} turn was no help, while the {5-Hearts} river would be the last card Mascaro would see before being eliminated in 19th place.

Montano's Kings Cracked on the River

Action folded to Joao Lopes, who had finished Day 1b as the chip leader, and he moved all in for 184,000 from the button. Luis Montano made the call from the big blind and two big hands were tabled.

Showdown

Montano{K-Clubs}{K-Spades}
Lopes{A-Spades}{K-Hearts}

Lopes was in big trouble and looking for an ace, though he would not find one as the board ran out {8-Spades}{Q-Spades}{2-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}. Lucky for him, the board was four-flushed and he held the {A-Spades}, giving him the big double.

Alejandro Vargas Eliminated in 20th Place ($3,860)

Alejandro Vargas on Day 2.
Alejandro Vargas on Day 2.

Action folded around to Halysson Sala on the button and he put in a raise to 28,000 holding {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}. The small blind got out of the way, and Alejandro Vargas shoved all in for right around 90,000 with {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Sala made the call and it was off to the races.

Vargas was at risk but ahead, that is until the {9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop delivered Sala a bigger pair. The {3-Clubs} turn was a blank as far as Vargas was concerned, and he was looking for one of the two remaining five on the river to stay alive. Unfortunately for him, the {6-Spades} was not it and he made his way to the payout desk in 20th place to collect $3,860.

Santiago Hernandez Eliminated in 21st Place ($3,590)

Santiago Hernandez moved all in from early position for 135,000 and found one caller in the form of Pedro Frankel in the cutoff.

Showdown

Frankel{K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Hernandez{K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

The elder statesman has been running hot today, and this hand proved no different as the board ran out {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and he sent Hernandez to the rail in 21st place.

Jorge Guerra Eliminated in 22nd Place ($3,590)

In a blind-versus-blind battle, Pedro Frankel put in a raise from the small blind only to have Jorge Guerra move all in from the big for around 140,000 total. Frankel nonchalantly made the call and the cards were turned up:

Showdown

Frankel{A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}
Guerra{Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The {K-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} missed Guerra, though it did give him a gut-shot straight draw; however, Frankel picked up a flush draw, meaning diamonds were useless to Guerra. In the end, Frankel's ace high prevailed as the {7-Spades} appeared on the turn followed by the {K-Clubs} on the river. Guerra was eliminated in 22nd place and took home $3,590 for his performance.
