Barclay's pocket pair was dominated, but the 9♦Q♦2♦ flop gave him a set, leaving Sowell drawing to a jack or a diamond. Barclay filled up on the 2♥ turn, leaving Sowell down to two outs, and after the Q♥ river Barclay secured the double.

The board ran out K♥4♥3♠8♣J♥, giving Stevens top pair to eliminate Paxton and surpass one million in chips.

Cervantes was down to around 100,000 following the hand, and he was eliminated right after by Justin Brevik.

The player in the small blind had Hughes crushed with a higher pocket pair, but the 6♦ turn brought in the set for Hughes, leaving his opponent drawing to two outs. The 7♣ river changed nothing for either player, and Hughes took down the sizable pot while bringing Day 1a of the Main Event into the money.
