Level 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Caleb October
Caleb October

Caleb October was all-in and at risk with the KQ, up against patrice Ah-Nien with the AJ.

The Q837Xx runout improved October to a pair of queens and he doubled, as no ace came on the river. Another player had folded the 87, which would have made two pair.

Brooks Gets a Shove Through

Level 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Hennie Appel opened the action with a button raise to 13,000 and Banks Solomons three-bet to 43,000 in the small blind. Harold Brooks then pushed for more than 140,000 in the big blind to force out Appel. Solomons came to the same conclusion and folded as well, as Brooks exposed his AK and Solomons pulled out his 77 from near the muck.

Heads-up to the KQ27 turn, Pravir Rama checked in the big blind and Patrice Ah-Nien bet 25,000 on the button. Rama check-shoved for 87,000 and Ah-Nien folded the K face-up.

One table over, Harold Brooks opened to 10,000 in the hijack. Quintin Heather-Clark then jammed for 87,000 on the button and Alvin Pillay reluctantly called in the small blind, Brooks let go.

Solomons Wins Three-Way Pot

Level 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Hennie Appel raised to 12,000 and Banks Solomons in the next seat made it 36,000 to go in the cutoff. Harold Brooks called on the button, and Appel's call made it three ways to the 542 flop.

Appel had checked in the dark and Solomons continued for 55,000. Brooks tank-folded and Appel also got out of the way.

Brooks indicated he folded the "winning hand" when he flashed his JJ but Solomons actually showed him an even better pocket pair that he only exposed for a split second.

Solomons Check-Raises Pillay

Level 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Alvin Pillay raised it up from the cutoff and was called by Banks Solomons in the big blind. Following the 983 flop, Solomons checked and Pillay continued for 14,000. The check-raise to 40,000 by Solomons did the trick to win the pot uncontested.

Over on the other table, Wesley Wiegand lost pots without showdown against Gareth Kalil and KM. He made up for it when holding with AK versus Hafiz Juma and his Jx9x to reduce the field to the last 13 players.

Patrice Ah-Nien then took a pot off Kalil when his A3 rivered a straight on the 55264 runout. Kalil briefly exposed the A10 and lost the previous profit.

Steenkamp and Blom No More

Level 12 : Blinds 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante
Wesley Blom

Derrick Steenkamp finally found a spot to get his short stack into the middle with the A2 only to run into the KK of Alvin Pillay. The 943 flop gave Steenkamp more outs with the wheel draw but he came up short on the 10 turn as well as 9 river runout.

In the last hand before the break at the very same table, Wesley Blom raised to 7,500. Harold Brooks three-bet to 22,500 and Mariette Language then four-bet behind. Blom called all-in and Brooks folded, flashing the 88 in the process.

Mariette Language: AA

"Black cards please," Blom requested and two came with the 832 flop, on which Brooks would have hit a set. The J turn gave Blom some thin hope but the 7 river ended his run a few spots shy of Day 2 as well.

Appel Applies Pressure on Heather-Clark and Blom

Level 12 : Blinds 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante

Three ways to the 874 flop, Quintin Heather-Clark checked out of the big blind and so did Hennie Appel. Wesley Blom in the cutoff bet 14,000 and Heather-Clark called. Appel then check-raised to around 110,000 with very few chips behind. Blom reluctantly folded and Heather-Clark also let go, flashing 96 to Alvin Pillay.

One table over, Hafiz Juma was in the tank on the QJ2 flop when he had checked and Wesley Wiegand bet 21,000. Juma used one time bank to shove his short stack and Wiegand called.

Juma tabled the K10 for an open-ender and Wiegand had the equally strong K10. The chop was already guaranteed ahead of the 8 turn and 5 river.

Kalil On the Rise

Level 12 : Blinds 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante

Gareth Kalil bet the J92J turn for 16,000 to get called by Wesley Wiegand and then sized up to more than 45,000 on the 5 river. The dealer had not counted the bet size yet when Wiegand had already folded, he was shown the J.

One table over, the stack of Wesley Blom had taken a toll as oif recently while Alvin Pillay chipped up. Blom opened again, making it 6,500 to go this time. Harold Brooks applied pressure with a three-bet to 18,500 and forced reluctant folds by Quintin Heather-Clark and Alvin Pillay out of the blinds, Blom also folded.

Brooks flashed the AK.
