Olson Survives with Kings

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

We found Jonathan Olson, who won Mid-States Poker Tour Meskwaki a few weeks ago, all in with {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}. He managed to hold against an opponent holding {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} as the board came {9-Spades}{2-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, but he's still sitting with a very short stack.

Chuck Robison opened to 550 and saw Lance Harris make it 1,225. Action folded to the big blind, who cut out a call before moving all in for 8,275. Robison got a count and announced a call, while Harris quickly mucked.

Robison: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}

The board ran out {5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, keeping the kings best.

Vang Pays a River Bet

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Kou Vang check-called 1,100 on a board of {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}, and he checked the {k-Diamonds} river as well. His opponent bet 2,500 and Vang tanked for a couple of minutes before opting to call. He was shown {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for trips, and Vang mucked his hand.

Sandness Spikes Two-Outer for Massive Early Pot

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Mark Sandness dragged a big pot after a lucky river card.
Mark Sandness dragged a big pot after a lucky river card.

Dan Dykhouse bet 2,200 after Mark Sandness checked to him on a flop of {9-Clubs}{a-Spades}{5-Clubs}, and a player behind Dykhouse called. Sandness shoved all in for about 20,000, and Dykhouse made the call after thinking it over. Behind him, the third player snap-called.

"I don't like that," Sandness said, showing {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for nines up.

His assumption was correct, as the third player had flopped bottom set with {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}, while Dykhouse had made a light call with {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. A {6-Diamonds} changed nothing on the turn, but the {9-Hearts} river gave Sandness nines full and the winning hand.

"Sometimes the nine comes," Sandness said with a smile.

Small One for Harris

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Lance Harris called a bet of 1,200 on the end, with the community having come {a-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}.

"I hope we're chopping it," Harris' opponent said, turning {a-}{2-} for aces and threes with a nine kicker.

Harris had a kicker that played though, with {a-}{10-}.

Kirby Straightening Foes Out

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Matt Kirby was in the big blind, and he bet 2,200 on a final board of {3-Spades}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Spades}{10-Spades} against two opponents. The player on the button raised to 7,200, and the small thought it over before folding. Kirby quickly flicked out a call, and his opponent showed {q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for a ten-high straight. Kirby had it beat with {j-Hearts}{8-Spades} for a straight to the jack.

At another table, John Morgan began his climb back to respectability, as he shoved all in with {k-Hearts}{7-Spades} and spiked a king on the river against a player who called with {2-}{2-}.
