Noel Preserves Shorter Stack

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Elodie Noel
Elodie Noel

Elodie Noel is one of several women in today's starting field and she has been hovering on an average stack in the early stages. However, since then nothing much happened and with the field nearly cut in half, she plummeted below 20 blinds.

Facing a raise to 4,100 and a call. Noel jammed for 55,600 in the big blind and eventually got the shove through.

Rusu Knocks Out Khayat

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Following a raise to 4,000 and a call, John Khayat pushed a short stack of 19,000 in the small blind and Marius Rusu then isolated from the next seat to force out the initial raiser and cold-caller.

John Khayat: {a-Spades}{9-Spades}
Marius Rusu: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

Both had a piece on the {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop and the {8-Spades} turn provided a second flush draw. However, it was Rusu who improved further with the {6-Hearts} river and knocked out Khayat. It was the second bullet for the latter and he cannot re-enter anymore on Day 1a.

Short Stack Double for Kechiche

Level 13 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Mehdi Kechiche was all-in with a modest short stack on the second bullet and had a flip with the {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}. He was up against the {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} of Audrey Verlomme and remained ahead throughout the {7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades}{9-Spades} board to climb back above the starting stack.

Two Knockouts for Lefebvre

Level 13 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

The {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} of Sergi Panella Navarro were already exposed when the Spaniard was all-in holding a flush draw to the {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades} turn. Romain Lefebvre was ahead with the {k-Spades}{q-Clubs} and that remained to be the case even after the {a-Spades} river.

Shortly after, a very short stacked Lucas Navarro Reyes got it in before the flop with {7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and Lefebvre made the call with the {a-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. There was some hope for a miracle comeback until the {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} turn but the {8-Diamonds} river bricked.

Homadi No More

Level 13 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Alexandre Homadi
Alexandre Homadi

Heads-up to the {9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop the fireworks got underway between Baptiste Abadie and Alexandre Homadi as both got their chips in with near identical stacks.

Baptiste Abadie: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Alexandre Homadi: {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}

The gutshot and nut flush draw of Homadi bricked on the {9-Hearts} turn and {9-Spades} river to leave the Frenchman with fumes, which he lost shortly after.

Martinez Spikes a Lucky Double

Level 13 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

The last hand before the break brought fireworks when Alexis Bouvier raised to 3,000 and Alexandre Homadi called in the cutoff. Raul Martinez Martinez three-bet to 11,500 and the initial raiser called. Homadi then pushed for 134,000 and Martinez called all-in for 57,100, forcing out Bouvier.

Raul Martinez Martinez: {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Alexandre Homadi: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The {10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Spades} flop was no threat but the Spaniard got there with the {9-Clubs} turn and {j-Hearts} river.

A Double for Merceron

Level 13 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

In a hand just before the tournament went on break, Nicolas Merceron was all-in for 21,100 on the {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Hearts} river. His opponent from Spain tank-called and Merceron tabled the {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} for the flopped nuts.

"You win," his opponent conceded and flashed the {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.
