Sands Slips

With the flop reading {5-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, David "Doc" Sands bet out 3,400 and received a call from his opponent.

Fourth street was the {6-Diamonds} and Sands checked. His opponent fired 7,800 and Sands mucked his cards, awarding his opponent the pot. Sands is currently sitting on about 46,000.

Wright Eliminated

A series of unfortunate events have ended Larry Wright's Day 1a. He stopped by our desk to tell us about them.

First, his flopped set of sevens fell to an opponent's rivered gutshot straight, and that followed by losing a race with {A-}{K-}. He was all in against two opponents who both held {Q-}{Q-}, but no help came for Wright.

Nguyen Not Winning the Flips

After a player in middle position shoved for 14,900, Huy Nguyen re-raised all in over the top from the next seat and isolated the pot.

Nguyen held a slight lead with {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} against his opponent's {A-Spades}{K-Spades}, but watched the pot go the other way when the board rolled out {Q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{4-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}.

That knocked Nguyen down to about 7,000 and he busted shortly thereafter.

Le Runs Into Broadway

The player under the gun opened the action with a limp and it folded around to Hien Le who made it 5,000 to go. Action folded back to the player under the gun and he called.

The flop was {7-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{A-Clubs} and both players checked. The {J-Diamonds} fell on the turn and it was checked to Le. Le fired 7,000 and his opponent called. The {10-Spades} fell on the river and Le's opponent moved 12,000 into the center. Le reluctantly called and his opponent showed {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} for rivered Broadway. Le mucked his hand and the pot was pushed to his opponent.

After this hand Le is sitting on about 115,000.

Reese Getting Respect

After a player in early position limped in, Mike Reese bumped it to 3,500 from middle position. The player in the small blind called, as did the limper, and the flop came down {K-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}.

Action was checked to Reese who bet 11,000. The player in the small blind folded immediately and the preflop limper took a little more time to fold, but did so showing the {K-Spades}.

Kelling's Stab Fails

The player under the gun opened to 3,000 and next to act was Jence Kelling. He called, as did the player in the big blind, leading to an {A-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop.

It was checked around, landing the {5-Hearts} on the turn. A check from the big blind led to a bet of 3,000 from the UTG player. Calls from both Kelling and the big blind delivered the {6-Hearts} river. It went check check to Kelling who bet 12,000, pushing the big blind out. The UTG player, though, called with {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}.

"You're good, king high," said Kelling.

Nguyen Sends One Home

We caught up to find a short stacked player flip over his cards with his tournament life on the line. The short stack held {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} but was crushed by Andrew Nguyen's {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}.

The board fell {8-Hearts}{J-Spades}{4-Spades}{7-Spades}{A-Spades} and Nguyen's pocket kings were able to hold and he was able to reduce the field by one.
