Best Biceps in the 50s

Steve Karr from Las Vegas just called over to a PokerNews reporter and said, "Hey, put the best biceps in the Seniors in [the blog]." We don't have a picture of Karr yet, but we'll get one soon enough. We can tell you that Karr flexed a little bit for us and we can confirm he does have the best biceps left in the Seniors Championship.

Karr also has 120,000 in chips to go along with his guns.

DeTienne Crushing

Kevin DeTienne has just moved to 575,000 in chips. DeTienne had an opponent all in with the {Q-Spades}{4-Spades} versus his {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} on a flop of {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{7-Clubs}.

"If you hace an ace, you're good," said DeTienne's opponent after DeTienne made the call.

The turn was the {A-Clubs} and river the {J-Spades}, giving DeTienne the pot and moving him way up on top of the leaderboard.

Looking at DeTienne's record, we find he has three cashes to his credit with the largest being a third-place finish in the $1,000 event at the Mirage Poker Showdown in Las Vegas in 2006. He took home over $13,000 for that finish. Right now it looks like DeTienne has put himself in quite the position to best that result and we'll be watching him to see if he can do it.

Woodcock Plummets

We don't know exactly how the action went but on a board of {4-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} Allyn Jaffrey Shulman moved all in and was called by Glenn Woodcock.

Woodcock: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}
Shulman: {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}

Woodcock now needed the last queen in the deck or running diamonds to win this hand. He received no such luck when the {2-Hearts} fell on the turn and the {10-Spades} landed on the river.

A couple of hands later Woodcock moved in and was called by two players including Thomas C Geist. The flop came {j-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and Geist bet out 17,000 and received a call. The {3-Clubs} on the turn saw two checks, and the same can be said for the {A-Diamonds} on the river.

Cards were turned over and it was Geist and his opponent chopping the pot as they both held {K-}{Q-}. Woodcock was eliminated as his {9-Clubs}{10-Clubs} amounted to nothing.

Double Jeopardy

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
The record crowd on Day 1
The record crowd on Day 1

There's been some different things going in Event 29: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em Championship. One thing was the early start times to accommodate the players a bit more. That seemed to have worked out as over 4,100 players came out for this event.

Oftentimes in tournaments, the players request for a sports game or a fight to be put on the televisions around the tournament area, but not here in this one. On the TVs in the Seniors Championship is Jeopardy and it's the choice of show for some of the remaining players left. Nothing wrong with wanting to learn a little bit of trivia and gain some knowledge while playing a poker tournament, right?

Corkins Collects

Hoyt Corkins started the action off from middle position raising it to 16,000. The table folded around to the small blind who moved all in for 67,000 more. After a few moments Corkins made the call.

Corkins: {K-Spades}{10-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}

The board came {5-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades}{10-Hearts} and Corkins was awarded the pot as his top two pair were best.

Woodcock Comes Up Short

The board read {6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{10-Spades} and Glenn Woodcock bet out 50,000 from the big blind into the under the gun player. Woodcock's opponent then moved all in for 113,500 total and Woodcock made the call.

Woodcock: {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Opponent: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

A river {2-Diamonds} was no use to Woodcock who needed a nine or a heart. Woodcock no sits with almost 150,000 and will need to do some rebuilding.

On a Roll

Frederick Roll started the action out in this recent hand by making it 18,000. A player in late position moved all in for 91,500 more and Roll made the call.

Roll: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}

As long as an ace didn't drop it looked like Roll would scoop up the pot. The board came {5-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and Roll's queens were best.

Bjorin's Nines Don't Hold

Chris Bjorin
Chris Bjorin

Anthony Wise raised it up to 17,000 from middle position and found a caller in Chris Bjorin. The dealer spread a flop {5-Spades}{7-Spades}{8-Clubs} and Wise bet out 22,000, and Bjorin moved all in. Wise made the call and cards were flipped over.

Bjorin: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Wise: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

Bjorin possessed an gut-shot straight draw and a pair of nines, while his opponent had a flush draw and an over-pair draw. The {10-Clubs} on the turn gave Bjorin an open-ended straight draw, but a {j-Spades} on the river put the best of it in Wise's hand. His nut flush was more than enough to claim the pot, and Bjorin was eliminated.

Bjorin's Nines Hold

Chris Bjorin
Chris Bjorin

Chris Bjorin had an opponent all in and on the ropes with the {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}. His opponent held a weaker pair in the {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and Bjorin's nines held up. He busted the player and moved to 185,000 in chips.

Bjorin is one of the most, if not the most, successful player left in the field. The long-time Swedish professional has two World Series of Poker gold bracelets and 62 WSOP cashes, which is tied for fifth all time with Humberto Brenes. Because Brenes also cashed in this event, the two remain tied.

Bjorin has over $5.2 million in live tournament earnings and his two bracelets came from 1997 in the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha and the 2000 $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em events. He's also final tabled the 2009 WSOP Europe Main Event and numerous other WSOP events.

Just this year, Bjorin made the final table of Event 4: $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low 8-or-Better and took second place for nearly $125,000.
