Halfon Not Messing Around on the Bubble

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Albert Halfon
Albert Halfon

Albert Halfon, one of the largest-stacked players at the end of Day 1, is his table's chip leader with over 250,000. He just opened a pot under the gun +1 for 29,000, and picked up the 10,000 in blinds and antes, everyone staying out of his way (the next highest stack playing against him at the moment is 150,000, with four shortish stacks bubble-dodging on his table).

Kroon Gets the Best of Alipourfard This Time

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Mark Kroon and Mansour Alipourfard were at it again in another heads-up pot just before the money bubble burst.

The action came back around to Kroon, who was under the gun preflop, and he pushed his massive half-million-plus stack all in, putting a player in middle position, as well as Alipourfard on the hijack, at risk.

The player between Kroon and Alipourfard folded, but Alipourfard thought he saw a glimpse of an ace as that player mucked. He contemplated the decision for a couple of minutes before mucking himself, showing the {a-Spades} as he turned in his hole cards.

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Numbers are being confirmed and tables balanced, the cash desk readied for the onslaught of post-bubble eliminations. Play will resume when all is shipshape and ready to play to the bubble and beyond.

Half Hour Break for 909 Remaining Seniors

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

The screens announce that we're just 21 off the money now. This may make for a tense break for any Seniors players whose stacks are lying near the felt as the blinds rise to 2,000/4,000/4,000 when they return. Prizes start at $1,499 for 888th place.

Sitton Sitting on 300k

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Hank Sitton is hiding behind eight racks of 100 chips as he waits to get colored up, and he's over the 300,000-mark overall after taking down a big pot in a three-bet hand.

An early position player opened to 8,000, and the player to his direct left three-bet to 20,000. Sitton cold called from the hijack and the original opener folded.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{10-Spades}, and the early position player put in a bet for 18,000. Sitton called, bringing the {2-Diamonds} on the turn. The preflop three-bettor checked, and Sitton went all-in, putting his opponent at risk with 125,000 behind. The at-risk player folded, and Sitton added to his growing stack.

Chung and Workman Edging Towards Half a Million Apiece

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Pavillion Black has its own newly ascendant big stacks, among them Samkyu Chung. A neighbour of his asked, "Can you just say "a dumptruck load of chips?" for him?" as his 460,000 dwarfs the nearest stack on his table.

His most recent acquisition was a pot of 40,000, won from the small blind. Chung raised to 7,000 in late position, called by the small blind. No bet followed the {a-Spades}{2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop, but Chung bet when it was checked to him on the {9-Hearts} turn - 13,000. His opponent made the call. Both players checked the {k-Spades} river, the small blind showing {8-Clubs}{9-} for a turned pair of nines, but Chung the {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} for a better pair hit on the river.

Jessee Plays the Jack-Nine to Perfection

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Albert Halfon raised to 18,000 on the small blind, and got a call from Dennis Jessee in the big blind.

Halfon fired a 30,000-chip continuation bet on the {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop, and Jessee called. The turn came {k-Spades}, and Halfon slowed down with a check. Jessee bet 25,000 and Halfon called, bringing the {6-Hearts} on the river. The action checked through and Jessee showed {j-Spades}{9-Spades} for the king-high straight, beating out Halfon's {j-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

Hefty Stacks, Pavillion White Section

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Start of day chip leader Adilson Morales has retaken the lead in level 14; further high stackers to follow from the Black section.

Ocksrider Waits until River to Win Race

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Down to 10 big blinds at the 1,500/3,000 level, Christopher Ocksrider found a spot to shove over the top of two early position limpers. The first of them made the call with {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}; Ocksrider held {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}.

By the time the river was about to be dealt, Ocksrider had picked up a gutshot to go with his overcards as the board until 4th street showed {a-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{j-Spades} and that's exactly what hit - the {10-Clubs}. His opponent gave the felt a little bang, while Ocksrider picked up some breathing room.
