Poker Player Tanks Over 15 Minutes in WSOP Main Event For Pay Jump

With just 72 players remaining in this year's WSOP Main Event, one player took the meaning of "tanking" to a new extreme, deliberating for over 15 minutes in an unsuccessful bid to secure a $20,000 pay jump.

On Day 6 of poker's world championship event, Loren Klein found himself all-in with just one chip behind, and was allowed to stall for an exceptionally long time before floor staff finally intervened.

Tyler Gaston, the player who contested the pot with Klein, told his opponent he would let him take his time to try to reach the next pay jump as action continued at the other tables.

Newhouse flopped a set on the Q♠K♠9♠ runout, but Zhang was still drawing live with outs to a flush.

The J♣ turn was not what Zhang needed, and the A♥ river was not enough to keep Zhang in contention as Newhouse's set held to knockout Zhang.

On the 5♠ turn, Ajayi bet again for 90,000, and Crespi called.

Both players checked the Q♣ turn, and Ajayi mucked when Crespi showed the 10♦8♦ for a pair of tens and the win.

Becker had Lee in deep trouble, but the winds of fate blew another direction, and in a hurry when the flop came 3♦6♦Q♦, which gave Lee a flopped flush and had Becker searching for runner-runner magic.

The 5♣ turn gave Lee the check mark on the winning hand as the J♥ river completed the board.

Big Slick Works Out for Wu

Ching Da Wu got the bidding started with an open to 30,000 from early position. Nicholas Marchington chose to put more chips in the pot as he three-bet to 120,000 from the small blind in response. Wu shipped it for 436,000 total and was called by Marchington as the two went to a showdown, with Wu at risk.

Wu needed help to stay in contention, but the flop kept Marchington in the lead when the dealer fanned out Q♠10♥3♠.

The turn was much kinder to Da Wu when it came the A♣ to give him a pair of aces, but Marchington was still in the hunt with a straight draw.

A brick hit the river when the 2♠ peeled to award Da Wu the pot.

All three players in the pot checked the flop to usher in the 6♥ turn. Punnat Punsri checked his option again from the big blind before Kaifan Wang put out a bet of 110,000 from early position. Alexander Farahi made the call from the hijack while Pusnri folded to bow out of the hand.

Wang went all-in on the 3♣ river, which was snap-called by Farahi, who put himself at risk for 265,000.
