Since its inception, the World Series of Poker Europe has grown each and every year. From 2007-2010, the event was held in London, and then made the trek across the English Channel last year for the biggest and best series yet.

Speidel, who won a big tournament in Australia back in January, was featured as one of PokerNews' Rookie Roundup selections this summer; however, he only made the trip to Vegas to play in the Main Event. That means Speidel stands the best chance of capturing a bracelet in 2012 right here in Cannes!
Every time we walk by Antonio Esfandiari's table his stack is bigger. In less than a level and a half, Esfandiari has worked his starting stack of 3,000 up to 11,000! The "Magician" is certainly working some magic here in the early going, and if he can continue to do so he may very well make a run at bracelet #3!

We're not sure how it happened, but Dan O'Brien has been eliminated from the tournament. We do know that Erik Cajelais, who won a bracelet in the £2,500 Pot Limit Hold'em/Omaha event in the 2009 WSOP Europe, has replaced O'Brien in Seat 1 over at Table 2.
Just prior to the level up, action was heads-up on a 
flop with 1,625 in the pot when Antonio Esfandiari checked to the player on the button. He tossed out a bet of 500 only to have Esfandairi, the winner of the $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop, check-raise to 1,600. The button seemed tortured and thought for a long time about the decision. At one point he stacked up all his chips and looked as if he was going to move all in, but then he quickly put them back. After about a minute of thought the button conceded the hand and Esfandiari took down the pot.
"Tens?" Seat 7 asked.
"No pair," Esfandiari replied with a smile.
We didn't even know Emil Patel played today's tournament, and that's because he busted on just the second hand of the day, at least according to his Twitter:
