Shiarla Doubles Through Cloninger

Level 24 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante

Loren Cloninger raised it up to about 50,000, and Eric Shiarla shoved all in on the button for 232,000. Cloninger flicked his cards as if irritated by them but called nonetheless.

Cloninger: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Shiarla: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}

The dealer spread a flop of {a-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{10-Clubs}, giving Shiarla a set.

"That's it," someone said.

Not quite, as running cards could still win it for Cloninger, but the {5-Spades} ended those hopes.

"Checking is the New Betting"

Level 24 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante

Jason Somerville opened in the cutoff for 51,000, and Mario Lopez defended his big blind. Both checked the {k-Spades}{6-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} flop and a {9-Hearts} turned. Lopez bet 75,000 and Somerville called. Lopez bet another 100,000 on the {2-Spades} and Somerville again called.

Lopez revealed {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for second pair but it wasn't good as Somerville had {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. Lopez expressed surprise that Somerville would play top pair so passively.

"Checking is the new betting," Somerville said with a smile.

Loren Klein Eliminated in 14th Place ($1,660)

Level 24 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Loren Klein - 14th place
Loren Klein - 14th place

Loren Klein opened to 79,000 from the hijack and Chad Holloway moved all in from the button. Klein called for his 580,000 in chips and the cards were tabled.

Klein: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}
Holloway: {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}

With Klein flipping for his tournament life, the dealer would spread a {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} flop to see him flop Broadway.

Unfortunately for Klein, the turn ended his chances as it paired the board with the {Q-Clubs}. The river landed the insignificant {7-Diamonds}, and Klein was eliminated in 14th place for a $1,660 payday as Holloway climbs to 2.5 million in chips.

Robert Paul Eliminated in 15th Place ($1,660)

Level 24 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Robert Paul - 15th place
Robert Paul - 15th place

Chad Holloway opened to 50,000 and Paul Sampson called in the hijack next to speak before Robert Paul called in the big blind and the dealer spread a {Q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop.

Paul checked, as did Holloway, and Sampson bet out 50,000. Paul check-raised to 140,000 and Holloway moved all in for 1,330,000 to force a quick fold from Sampson. Paul pondered for just over a minute before calling off his final 180,000.

Paul: {6-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Holloway: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

With Paul committed and needing to improve to stay alive, the {2-Hearts} on the turn gave him an additional four outs.

The river however would blank out with the {J-Clubs} and Paul would hit the rail in 15th place for a $1,660 payday as Holloway soared to nearly 1.9 million in chips.

Joga Sahota Eliminated in 16th Place ($1,660)

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

At the same time Nick Aguilera was being eliminated, Joga Sahota unfortunately was too.

Paul Sampson opened to 45,000 and Jason Somerville called before Joga Sahota moved all in for 294,000. Sampson folded, but Somerville called.

Sampson: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Somerville: {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

The board ran out {J-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Spades} and Sampson was eliminated in 16th place for a $1,660 payday.

Nick Aguilera - 17th place

The defending champion Nick Aguilera has just been eliminated from the tournament in 17th place.

Aguilera was all in holding {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} against Loren Klein's {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}.

The final board read {4-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} and Aguilera hit the rail.

Holloway Picks Off Vincent

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Chad Holloway
Chad Holloway

Chad Holloway opened to 45,000 from under the gun and both Paul Sampson and Blake Vincent called to see a {6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} flop.

Vincent led out from the big blind for 58,000 and only Holloway called as the {A-Hearts} landed on the turn and both players checked.

The river fell the {5-Clubs} and Vincent bet out 79,000 with Holloway calling.

Vincent tabled his {K-Spades}{6-Hearts}, but it would be Holloway's {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} that would see him scoop the pot.

Newman Gets There to Bust Mulder

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Jeff Newman shoved in the cutoff for about 270,000. In the small blind, Aaron Mulder called off his stack of about 240,000.

Mulder: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Newman: {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

Newman was dominated but got lots of help on the {6-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Spades} flop as he picked up an open-ender. The turn bricked with the {k-Clubs}. The river: an {8-Hearts}, giving Newman his straight and eliciting a fist pump.

"Every time," muttered Mulder in amazement. "I think you have me covered too."

That was the case, and Newman headed for payouts.
