Meier Coolers One

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

After a preflop raising war, big blind Dylan Meier got his stack of 19,000 in against a player in early position who held {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}. Meier had the {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}, though, and the bullets held up on the {q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} board.

Fish Chipping Up Early

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Brandon Fish bet 1,750 on a {j-Spades}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop from middle position, and an opponent on his right who checked made the call. Both checked the {3-Diamonds} turn, and Fish's opponent led out 3,500 on the {10-Hearts} river.

"I was worried about tens," Fish said, but he dropped in calling chips.

His opponent wouldn't turn his cards over, so Fish revealed {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and took the pot.

Escaping the Cooler

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

A player in the hijack was tanking on a preflop decision when we got to Table 29. He had put in about 4,000 in a raising war with David Hengen, who was all in from the big blind for his opponent's last 18,000 or so.

"This would be a first," Hengen's opponent mused. "Never folded this one before."

He flicked {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} into the middle, and Hengen flashed two aces.

Setti's Kicker Wins

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

We found local cash player Bhaskar Setti in the small blind on a board of {j-Spades}{9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} against a middle-position opponent. He bet 1,600 and his opponent called. On the {q-Spades} river, he bet 1,600 more, and his opponent tanked a bit and called again.

Setti showed {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and his opponent mucked what looked like {j-}{8-} face-up.

Lilienthal in an Early Hole

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

Clint Lilienthal began with the optimistic outlook that he was tied for the chip lead, but that's changed after a massive early pot cost him a big chunk.

He bet 775 after David Hengen checked to him on a flop of {8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, and Hengen called. Hengen check-called a further 2,575 on the {a-Clubs}, and he came out betting with 4,275 on the {k-Hearts} river.

"That's a lot," Lilienthal observed before flicking a call in.

Hengen showed {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}.

"I would have gone broke that hand," Lilienthal said.

Welcome to Day 1a of RunGood Poker Series Council Bluffs

Brandon Fish and Thad Wolff battle heads up.
Brandon Fish and Thad Wolff battle heads up.

The "Ignite the Night" spring series hosted by RunGood concludes its three-week run at Horseshoe Council Bluffs with its $675 Main Event, starting tonight. Day 1a, the first of three starting flights, is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

The tournament, which carries a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool, comes on the heels of RunGood Harrah's North Kansas City and RunGood Hard Rock Tulsa, which were won by Ryan Tepen and Jeri Sieber, respectively. Last time the RunGood tour rolled through Council Bluffs, local regular Brandon Fish took it down for $34,267. The defending champ is already in the house, and of course the usual crew of sponsored RunGood Pros will be in action.

Day 1a will see 13 levels played, with each lasting 30 minutes. Each player begins with 20,000 in chips, and players bag after 1,500/3,000/500. Unlimited reentries are allowed through the break after Level 8. Players who make it through will return on Sunday for Day 2.

Cards will be in the air shortly.
