Moeller's Big Day

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

One lost pot can't slow down Pat Moeller's big day.

He limp called when one of the blinds made it 2,400. Then joined his opponent in checking the {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{j-Hearts} flop.

Moeller called another 4,000-chip bet on the {q-Hearts} turn, but the {7-Clubs} river saw checks from both players.

Moeller claimed an ace, but mucked when his opponent showed {a-}{k-}.

Despite the misstep, he's still on over 100,000 in chips and appears to be the only player in the room to have done that so far.

Go Time!

Nick Walker
Nick Walker

2014 Western New York Poker Challenge Main Event champ Nick Walker just got the ball rolling here with a 900-chip late position open.

Just one player called and they went heads-up to an {a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop. Walker continued for 1,000 and got the call.

The turn brought the {q-Diamonds} and another bet from Walker, who made it 2,200. This time his opponent folded.

MacKinnon Gets the Max

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

We walked over to Table 6 to find DJ MacKinnon and another player staring at a flop of {10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} with 2,300 in the pot. MacKinnon checked, his opponent bet 2,100, and McKinnon check-raised to 6,500. Call.

The {J-Spades} hit the turn and MacKinnon thought for about 30 seconds before moving all in for 19,500. His opponent snap-called with the {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}, but discovered he was way behind MacKinnon's {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. The {5-Spades} river completed the board, giving MacKinnon a full double up.

The Cooler

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Andy Spears has certainly cooled off after a hot start with his once chip leading stack cut almost in half.

The latest climb down the counts came courtesy of Mark Roberts, who used {k-}{10-} to beat Spears' {a-}{9-} and chop him down to size.

Reading Is Fundamental

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

It was a late one for Blake Napierala last night, running deep in the Event #6: $200 No-Limit Hold'em to finish fourth for $2,265.

But the long hours have not affected his reading ability.

He defended his big blind against a Dave Olshan 700-chip open and the two went heads-up to a {q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop. Napierala check-called an 800-chip bet and both players checked the {3-Hearts} turn.

But when Napierala checked the {a-Clubs} river and Olshan bet 1,500, he had to stop and think about it for a minute.

"Will you show me if I fold?" Napierala asked. Olshan shook his head no.

"I'm going to go with my read," Napierala said, showing a queen and throwing it in the muck.

Olshan showed {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}.

Late Arrivals

Flopping The Nut Straight

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Paul McLean was one of three callers when one opponent bet 2,100 into a {10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop.

However, he was the only one to call when that same opponent pushed all in on the {10-Spades} turn.

McLean had flopped the nut straight with his {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and although his hand was no longer the best possible, it was miles ahead of his opponent's {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}.

That opponent said his goodbyes and McLean raked in his stack after the {a-Diamonds} river was revealed.
