Spears Doing Spears Things

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Andy Spears, who has won countless tournaments at this venue, entered the Main Event shortly before the end of Level 3. He told us he played one orbit, busted a player and ran his stack up to 75,000.

Jacob Ostrander, Mark Roberts, and Marcy Jo Phillips, who just re-entered, will have to deal with Spears today at Table 13.

Running It Up

Pat Tighe
Pat Tighe

Just a few days removed from his victory in the 2015 Western New York Poker Challenge Event #3 $300 No Limit Hold'em, Pat Tighe is trying to run it up here in the Main Event.

He outlasted a field of 135 entries to post the win early Monday morning but only needed to take on one player to pick up an early pot moments ago.

With about 5,600 already in the pot, Tighe led out for 3,700 into an {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{j-Clubs} flop. His opponent on the button tanked for a minute, but could not find a call.

Phillips Plummets

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

On a flop of {A-Spades}{4-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, Marcy Jo Phillips shoved for 4,300 with the {4-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and was called quickly by an opponent with the {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. The {5-Diamonds} and {5-Hearts} completed the board, sending Phillips to the rail.

Straighten Up and Fly Right

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Pat Moeller led out into a 5,000-chip pot with the board reading {6-Clubs}{5-Spades}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}.

Then, when his opponent shoved all in, he snap-called with {4-Clubs}{7-Spades}.

Moeller's nut-straight was well ahead of his opponent's {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} and after a meaningless river, he doubled up to over 60,000 in chips.

McLean Returns the Favor

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

After losing a pot on the river earlier to Peter Raimondi, Paul McLean got some of his chips back in a similar fashion.

With the board showing {3-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{J-Spades}{6-Hearts}, Raimondi check-called a bet of 2,000 from McLean, bringing the {4-Hearts} on the river. Raimondi checked, McLean tossed out 3,000 and Raimondi tank-called.

"Two pair," said McLean as he turned over {J-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}.

"Figures," Raimondi responded as he mucked. "I had a jack."
