Tryba Turns a Straight, Doubles Up

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

The board read {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, and Chris Tryba shoved his last 84,500 into the middle. His opponent took a few moments before calling with a set of eights — the {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. Tryba turned over the {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a straight. The river was the the {q-Clubs} to keep Tryba in front, and he doubled up in a big way.

Garcia Now On 400K

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

From under the gun, Cord Garcia raised to 10,000. Jay Bishop called from the next seat, and everyone else folded.

The dealer fanned the {10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Spades} flop, and Garcia led for 15,000. Bishop folded the {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} face up, and Garcia won the pot to move to 400,000 in chips.

After the player in the small blind raised to 7,500, Cord Garcia called from the big blind to see the flop come down {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{8-Spades}. Both players checked, and the turn was the {Q-Hearts}. Again, both checked.

The river was the {5-Clubs}, and after the first player checked, Garcia bet 5,000 with a single orange T5,000 chip. His opponent folded, and Garcia collected the pot to move to 300,000 in chips.

Irby Makes a Play, Gets There Both Ways

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

The player in the small blind had 34,000 in front of him and Robert Irby was all in for 123,000. The action was on Ross Bybee on the {7-Clubs}{q-Spades}{j-Clubs} board, but he folded. The player in the small blind called following a few moments in the tank, and he flipped over the {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} for two pair. Irby turned over the {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for an open-ended straight draw and a flush draw.

On the turn, Irby made his straight when the {a-Spades} hit. Then on the river, Irby made a flush when the {3-Clubs} hit.

Heiberg Back From the Brink

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Jeff Heiberg was literally out the door after a three way pot earlier. He lost the pot and was naturally disappointed and walked out of the room quickly.

"The person who busted on that hand came and got me," said Heiberg, "I think that is so kind."

Heiberg returned to about 7,000 chips, which was six big blinds at the time. He now has 202,000 and is feeling pretty good.

"It is so sweet," said Heiberg before he sat back down to take his best shot at Day 2.
