Shack-Harris Finishes Off Merson

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Greg Merson
Greg Merson

We noticed 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Greg Merson was no longer seated at Table 33, and a quick check with Brandon Shack-Harris confirmed that he had been eliminated. In fact, Shack-Harris had done the deed and was kind enough to fill us in.

It actually happened toward the end of Level 9 when Merson raised to 2,000 and Shack-Harris three-bet to 5,000. Merson moved all in for roughly 25,000 and and Shack-Harris snap-called.

Shack-Harris: {a-}{a-}
Merson: {a-}{k-}

Merson received a little help when a king appeared on the flop, but he'd fail to catch a third. With that, Shack-Harris added Merson's stack to his own.

Montgomery Cracks Aces

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Kyle Montgomery raised to 2,500 and called a three-bet by the player in the small blind to 5,800. His opponent kept firing on a board of {3-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {5-Hearts} until the river and Montgomery pushed all in after the last barrel. His opponent called off with {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} only to see the bad news in {4-Clubs} {7-Clubs} for a straight to join the rail.

Hellmuth Busts to Laidlaw

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

In the very last hand of the previous level the action folded to Daniel Laidlaw on the button and he raised to 2,000, which only Phil Hellmuth in the small blind called. On the {Q-} {J-} {10-} flop, Hellmuth check-raised from 2,500 to 6,000 and called all in after Laidlaw pushed. The Australian had {8-Hearts} {9-Hearts} for the flopped straight and Hellmuth could not improve anymore with {Q-Clubs} {J-Clubs}.

Is This For Real?

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Within half an hour from 600 chips to 46,000. That's the story of Sam Cohen in a nutshell. After her previous two double ups, she reshoved for 16,000 with {K-Spades} {10-Spades} and got called by {8-Hearts} {8-Spades}. On the {Q-Diamonds} {J-} {X-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} board she doubled up once again. Cohen then reshoved twice and showed pocket queens and pocket aces.

Last but not least, there was a raise to 2,000 and a call from the player on the button before Cohen moved all in from the big blind for 41,000. There was no call and she flashed {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts} before heading into the break.

Lisandro Crippled, Eliminated

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Jeff Lisandro
Jeff Lisandro

The action folded around to the blinds where Jeff Lisandro committed his last 19,400 against his opponent after an exchange of raises.

Lisandro: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

The board ran out {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Spades}{9-Hearts}{a-Hearts} to see Lisandro drop down to just 3,600 in chips.

In the very next hand, Jeff Gross raised from the hijack and Lisandro put in the last of his chips. Gross called and tabled his pocket deuces and was up against {a-}{j-}. No help would come for the six-time WSOP bracelet winner as he was sent to the rail.
