Emperador Makes Wild Hero Call on the Stone Bubble Against Vampan

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Daniel Vampan
Daniel Vampan

On a completed board of J436A with around 220,000 chips in the pot, Diego Emperador checked from the big blind to his opponent Daniel Vampan in the hijack. Vampan then bet 600,000, enough to cover Emperador's stack of 325,000.

Emperador entered the tank for several minutes. Eventually, the floor came over because it was the last table still playing, and Emperador asked for some clarification about bubble rules. A few more minutes then went by before Vampan called the clock, giving Emperador only 30 seconds to make a crucial decision.

When the countdown reached five seconds left, Emperador slammed in the calling chips and players were told to keep their cards face down to give ample time for media to arrive.

When everyone had gathered, Vampan showed his bluff with 73 for a measly pair of threes, and Emperador elicited some gasps from the crowd when he tabled his KJ for just a bluff-catcher with a pair of jacks. He doubled up on the stone bubble and play continued onward.

Zhao Shoves on Parys

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

The board read JAAQ10 with around 140,000 in the middle.

Feng Zhao had checked from the big blind and Maxime Parys fired out a bet of 55,000 from the hijack. Zhao took some time and then shoved for around 175,000 for Parys to snap-fold.

Difficult Call for Pham?

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

In a heads-up raised pot, Jonathan Dimmig made a continuation bet for 40,000 on the 354 flop and Cong Pham made the call.

The turn A went check-check and a 5 paired the board on the river. Dimming sent 150,000 into the middle and Pham went deep into the tank.

After a few minutes, he eventually called with AA for the full house and Dimming sent Qx6x into the muck.

Yancey Races for a Double

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

James Romero opened for 21,000 from middle position, leaving the action on Kirk Yancey in the cutoff. Yancey took a few minutes before raising all in for his last 63,000. The action folded to Venkata Chinta in the small blind, who four-bet for his remaining stack.

Romero got out of the way after the big blind folded, leaving Yancey at risk.

Kirk Yancey: AK
Venkata Chinta: QQ

Yancey was flipping on the bubble, connecting immediately on the JAK flop. The 5 turn and 4 river changed nothing, leaving Yancey's two pair good for the double up.

Some Chip Counts During the Bubble

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Banducci Bets Big on Bubble

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

While most of the hands had already been completed, Michael Banducci and Jeremy Kottler were still battling heads up on a board of K71042.

Banducci led out from the big blind for 400,000 into a pot of 430,000 chips. Kottler took a few minutes before calling, but mucked after Banducci showed K7.

Elpayaa Gets a Fold from Lofaso

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

In a heads-up raised pot, the flop was 3J5 when Robert Lofaso check-called from the small blind a bet worth 20,000 from Joseph Elpayaa on the button.

The turn was the 4 and Lofaso checked again. Elpayaa bet 70,000 this time and after some thinking, Lofaso let it go.

Dayan Busts Greenleaf Two Spots away from the Money Bubble

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Yehuda Dayan
Yehuda Dayan

Yehuda Dayan opened to 20,000 from the cutoff and action folded around to Seth Greenleaf, who was automatically all in and at risk from the big blind for his last 14,000 chips.

Seth Greenleaf: 103
Yehuda Dayan: A5

Greenleaf was in dire straits when Dayan flopped top pair on the AQ8 flop. The J turn gave Greenleaf outs in the form of a gutshot straight draw, but the 6 river was a brick and Greenleaf was eliminated from the main event just two spots away from making the money.

Nguyen Doubles on the Bubble

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Harsheel Kothari raised from middle position to 16,000, finding Thanh Nguyen in the small blind who shoved all in for his last 43,000. Action back on Kothari, he thought on his decision for some time.

"Do I want to crush his dreams?" Kothari asked himself aloud before making the call.

Thanh Nguyen: AA
Harsheel Kothari: 86

The dream-crushing seemed possible on the flop of 354, giving Kothari an open-ended straight draw. But thankfully for Nguyen, the turn and river came the 9 and K, respectively, ensuring him that his aces would safely hold up.

Ananthapadmanabha Folds Aces Pre

Level 16 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Timothy Lin opened to 16,000 from under the gun and action folded to Harish Ananthapadmanabha in late position. He tanked for over a minute saying he was "in agony" as he held his head in his hands. Eventually Ananthapadmanabha released his hand, as did the remaining players, to send the pot to Lin, who showed 8x6x offsuit. Ananthapadmanabha, meanwhile, revealed he had folded aces preflop to a single raise in an effort to secure a minimum cash.
