20 years after that hand on High Stakes Poker, Daniel Negreanu is still getting coolered by Gus Hansen, and this time at the 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP).
Playing Day 1 of the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship, the two poker legends faced off with monsters that saw Hansen rake in a pot against Negreanu with a better full house.
However, unlike that iconic encounter from Season 2 of High Stakes Poker in 2006 (in which the turn card that day gave Hansen quads over Negreanu's boat), on this occasion, Kid Poker had clearly learned his lesson from two decades ago, losing only a small pot instead of going broke after telling the Dane, "Jeez, I'm sorry I didn't raise you!" after the hands were tabled.

At 10 a.m. local time on June 6, Day 1d of Event #18: $1,500 Monster Stack No-Limit Hold’em at the 2026 World Series of Poker gets underway. The event will play out at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
The $1,500 Monster Stack is always one of the biggest field events on the schedule, and this year is shaping up to be another huge one. Already, the event has $9,725,265 in the pot with another Day 1 flight to go today. Plus, there are two more Day 2 flights to go and both have a blind-level-worth of late registration at the start.
This puts the event on track for a $1,000,000-plus first-place prize.
Monster Stack entrants get a 50,000 starting stack and 50/100 blinds. The first stacks were doled out during Day 1a on June 3, with Day 1b and Day 1c running on subsequent days. Day 1d will play out on Saturday, June 6.
Each Day 1 flight gets its own Day 2 the next day at 11 a.m. So today's Day 1d flight will be playing alongside Day 2c for some of the day. Day 2a was on June 4, Day 2b was yesterday, and Day 2d will be tomorrow, June 7.
Day 3 marks the beginning of PokerNews traditional coverage and will bring together all the Day 2 survivors into one combined field on Monday, June 8, at 11 a.m. local time. Day 4 is scheduled for 11 a.m. on June 9, and the final table on June 10.
Today's starting flight is scheduled to play 10 levels, each lasting 60 minutes, with 20-minute breaks every two levels and a 75-minute dinner break after Level 8 at about 7 p.m. Each Day 2 will also play 10 60-minute levels, with 15-minute breaks every two levels (an extra break after Level 11 for the close of late registration) and a 60-minute dinner break after Level 17.
Day 1c saw a huge 2,896-entry field whittled down to 1,002 survivors.
Maria Konnikova (215,000) found a bag along with Freddy Deeb (207,000), Alex Foxen (128,000), Matt Glantz (121,000), Shiina Okamoto (120,000), and Main Event winners Michael Mizrachi (126,000), Ryan Riess (122,500), and Jonathan Tamayo (56,000).
Sandro Carucci (687,000) led the Day 1c field, but Robert Renaud remains the overall Day 1 chip leader, bagging 880,000 on Day 1b.

Klemens Roiter captured the title in 2025, navigating a massive field of 9,920 entries to claim $1,204,457 and his first WSOP bracelet. Roiter defeated David Uvaydov heads-up to secure the victory and the lion’s share of the $13,168,800 prize pool.
Other champions include Braxton Dunaway, Pedro Neves, Mike Jukich, and Michael Noori.
