Shak Chips Up with a Check-Raise

With a little over 2,000 in chips in the middle on the {K-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop, Dan Shak and Joe Kuether checked to Adrien Allain. Allain fired 1,025, but Shak fired back with a check-raise to 3,500. Kuether folded, then Allain gave it up, and Shak won the pot.

Mizrachi Still on Cruise Control

Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

We caught the action on a {4-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{A-Clubs} flop when Sylvian Gonon bet 3,500 from the small blind and received a call from Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi in middle position. After the dealer had burned and turned the {K-Clubs}, Gonon moved all in for his last 13,775 and out the pressure on Mizrachi.

The three-time bracelet winner chatted up his opponent a bit and then tanked for a bit. He proceeded to do the old pretend-to-throw-in-a-chip trick, but after Gonon gave him nothing, The Grinder showed the {A-Spades} and then folded his hand.

Despite that small loss, Mizrachi is still the tournament chip leader with 140,000.

Julius Pays Off Berg

On the final board of {10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, Eli Berg fired a bet of 3,150. After tanking for a minute, Kyle Julius made the call. Berg tabled the {4-Spades}{4-Clubs} for a set of fours and won the pot.

Seiver Busts Alibay

Ami Alibay check-called a bet of 2,900 on the board of {A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{J-Spades} from Scott Seiver. The {J-Diamonds} paired the board on the river, and Alibay checked again. Seiver moved all in, and Alibay called off his last couple thousand.

Seiver turned over the {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for a full house to beat Alibay's {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} and eliminated him from the tournament.

The Eliminations Keep Coming

Teltscher Put to the Test by Gruissem

With 4,825 in the pot and a flop of {8-Spades}{6-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}, Mark Teltscher bet 2,800 from the small blind only to have Philipp Gruissem raise to 7,200 from the cutoff. Not to be outdone, Teltscher three-bet to 14,800, Gruissem called, and the {9-Clubs} turn. This time Teltscher checked and watched Gruissem fire out 35,000.

Teltscher, who had 19,000 behind, shot back in his chair and put his arms behind his head. After about 20 seconds he called off and tabled {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}. It proved to be a good call as Gruissem rolled over {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. The {10-Spades} river was of no consequence, and Teltscher was pushed the pot.

"Finally he doesn't have it," someone else at the table said of Gruissem.

Half an Orbit with Chris Moorman

We decided to catch up with last year's runner-up, Chris Moorman, who has been tucked away in the far corner all day long. We figured the best way would be to spend an orbit with him, or in this case, half an orbit.

Hand #1: Moorman was in the small blind and folded after Victor Ramdin had raised to 700 in early position.

Hand #2: Again, Victor Ramdin opened for 700, and while it didn't clear the field, it did get Moorman to fold his button.

Hand #3: Action folded around to the hijack and he raised to 650. Moorman then bumped it up to 1,650 from the cutoff, which proved enough to win the pot as the button, blinds and original raiser all folded.

Hand #4: An early-position player raised to 750 and Moorman folded.

Hand #5: A raise from early position saw Moorman fold from middle position.

Hey, we didn't say it was going to be exciting.

Bonavena Doubles with Kings

We didn't catch the action in the hand, but we do know that Salvatore Bonavena doubled with {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} through Patrick Gastaldi on a board reading {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{A-Hearts}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. We're not sure of Gastaldi's hand as the dealer had already mucked his cards.

Quads for Guenan

In a raised pot, five players were in action on the {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop. Eric Harris was first and checked. Then, Ben Roberts, Flavien Guenan and one other player all checked before Phil Ivey was up. He fired 2,000. Only Harris folded, while the three others stuck around to see fourth street.

On the turn, the {K-Hearts} was added to the board. All four remaining players checked. They also checked after the {9-Diamonds} landed on the river.

Guenan promptly turned over the {10-Spades}{9-Spades} for quad nines, and everyone else mucked.
