Things Not Starting Well for Makhija

Amit Makhija had already lost full house over full house after flopping fives full on a {6-}{6-}{5-} flop. He lost to an opponent's {6-}{5-}, but somehow saved chips. Then he lost this next hand.

Oleksii Kovalchuk raised to 500 and Daniel Cates made the call before action folded to Max Lykov on the button. He three-bet to 2,300 and then Makhija flatted out of the small blind after thinking for a minute. Action folded back over to Cates and he called. Lykov also called.

The flop came down {8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and everyone checked to see the {9-Clubs} land on the turn. Makhija bet 4,000 and Cates made the call. Lykov folded.

The river was the {Q-Clubs} and Makhija check-called a bet of 5,000 from Cates. Cates turned over the {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for a turned set of nines and won the pot.

Negreanu Busts for the First Time

We say "first time" because immediately after busting to Artem Litvinov, Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu ran off to the regsitration desk on the other side of the building to re-enter. He's right back in the mix for another €25,000.

Someone must have some large pockets.

Metaal Eliminated Early

Govert Metaal has already been eliminated from the €25,000 High Roller. We got the action second hand from tablemate and Team PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis.

Veldhuis said that there was a raise to 500 preflop from Ivan Kudriavtckvand Metaal called from the small blind. The flop was {8-}{8-}{6-} and Metaal check-raised Kudriavtckv's continuation bet. Kudriavtckv called and then Metaal led for 3,800 on a {2-} turn. Kudriavtckv raised to 8,000 and then Metaal reraised to 16,000. Kudriavtckv shoved and Metaal made the call.

Metaal held {A-}{8-} for trip eights with an ace kicker. Kudriavtckv had flopped a full house with pocket sixes and was ahead. The river blanked off and Metaal was eliminated.

One More Big Bullet

2011 champion Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier
2011 champion Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier

All the superstars have one last bullet to shoot for glory and that's in the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final €25,000 High Roller. The event is set to be a massive one.

There were 12 seats alone given away to the event in a satellite last night and numbers are expected to be very high. Winning their way into the event last night were David Deutsch, Vincent van der Fluit, Martin Schleich, Peter Akery, Sorel Mizzi, Dori Yacoub, Ivan Kudriavtcev, Igor Kurganov, Andries Swart, Georgios Karakousis, Ongjen Sekularac and JC Alvarado. Viacheslav Igin placed 13th and won €17,204, so he could very well buy-in as well.

Last year, Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier won the title and he'll be back to defend it this year. This event has only be run at the EPT Grand Final since Season 5. In previous years, Tobias Reinkemeier and Vanessa Rousso earned the winner's crown.

In comparison, the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25,000 High Roller had 141 entrants earlier this year. Leonid Bilokur won that event for over $1.13 million after beating Jonathan Duhamel heads up.

The cards are scheduled to be in the air at 1:00 PM local time. PokerNews will be live on hand for all of the coverage, so stay tuned for the action.
