Grinding Below Starting Stack

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Jakob Karlsson opened the action with a raise to 1,400 from the hijack and Jonathan Little three-bet to 3,400 from one seat over. The players in the blinds folded and Karlsson called to see the heads-up flop of {3-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {10-Hearts}. The Swede checked and then folded when Little made a continuation bet for 3,500.

Other familiar faces are also below starting stack and need to grind their way back up.

Five-Bet from Karlsson

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante

Joseph Taylor raised to 1,100 from the cutoff, Petr Jelinek called from one seat over and then Jakob Karlsson three-bet to 3,500 in the small blind. Taylor four-bet to 8,700 and Jelinek quickly got out of the way. The Swede had other plans and five-bet to 15,000, which shut down all further action. One hand later Karlsson also three-bet another raise of Taylor but the latter this time elected to fold after his min raise.

Peters loses Battle of the Pocket Pairs

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante
David Peters
David Peters

David Peters was all in and at risk with pocket sixes against the pocket sevens of Stephen Chidwick. There was no suckout on an event-less board and Peters left the tournament area after asking the tournament director the number of levels to be played. From what we can tell, bagging and tagging probably takes place after the end of level nine.

The Power of Chips

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante

Seth Berger got involved in a raising war with Ka Kwan Lau and four-bet from 3,050 to 8,200. Lau checked his stack, then turned his head to the dealer and announced "all in." Berger's cards were in the muck about two seconds later.

Hills Catches Zech

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante

Andrew Christopher Hills raised from middle position and found one caller in Quirin Zech on the button. The Brit made a continuation bet on the {7-Spades} {J-Spades} {5-Clubs} flop for 1,150 and then check-called the {6-Diamonds} turn for 3,100. Zech went for the big story with another bet of 7,500 on the {4-Clubs} river, but Hills didn't buy it and called.

Zech turned over {A-Spades} {2-Spades} for the busted nut flush draw and Hills had that beat with {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts}.

Seth versus Weissman

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante

Joey Weissman three-bet out of the big blind and then called the four-bet of Anirudh Seth to 5,125. With so many chips invested by both, one would expect some action but surprisingly both checked down the board of {3-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {10-Clubs}. Weissman showed {6-Clubs} {9-Clubs} and Seth won the pot with {A-Spades} {8-Clubs}.

One hand later, they battled again on a flop of {2-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {10-Clubs} and Weissman bet 2,600 out of the small blind. He fired again on the {10-Spades} turn for 4,200 and Seth called before betting 6,175 himself on the {K-Clubs} river. Weissman check-called after a lot of consideration and then mucked when he was shown {J-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} for trip tens.

Quo Vadis Jonathan Little?

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante

Jonathan Little had an excellent start into Day 1a but since then it has gone downhill a lot. Just now he defended his big blind against a raise of Seth Berger and then check-raised all in after a turn of {3-Hearts} {7-Spades} {6-Hearts} {A-Clubs}. Berger had bet 2,000 into a pot of 4,500 and Little was all in for 15,950, which proved to be too much for Berger.
